Paul Trett Biography

Paul Trett
15th April 1954
Princess Mary Maternity Hospital, Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK

Paul was the 1st of 4 kids including sister Lynn & fellow FTP members & brothers George/Kevin & raised by parents George Snr. & Ethel in Byker. Paul was educated with 2 tier system through;

St. Lawrence's RC Primary School, Byker
St. Mary's Catholic Comprehensive, Longbenton

Whilst studying Paul was quite the entrepreneur as he would travel with George Snr. to the wholesalers where he would bulk buy chocolates, crisps, pop etc. & sell them at school undercutting the school tuck shop by approximately 25%. Upon leaving school Paul joined the national merchant navy where he trained to be a chef & served for just north of 1yr but within that short time he became very well travelled visiting 5/7 continents of the world missing only Antarctica & South America. After leaving merchant navy he used the training received & worked as a chef mastering his trade & familiarizing himself with the inside of a commercial kitchen before successfully applying for his public house management license. This allowed Paul at the tender age of 22 to be a landlord & over the years he build a wealth of experience managing 14 establishments in total including bars, nightclubs, golf courses, etc notably the former Cavalier, Sunderland (10yrs) & Red Lion, Chester-le-Street (5yrs). Paul had Andrea his 1 & only child in 1979 when he was 25 to his then wife Margaret whom he raised wonderfully & is now married with 1 child herself. Raised by George Snr. & Ethel who themselves were gamblers & regular Bingo players for 20+ years before they sadly passed meant Paul inherited a habit of gambling from a young age & was very influential towards youngest brother Kevin who is of the same gambling nature, Paul always joined in the micro limit stud poker games at family gatherings but like the rest of FTP didn’t begin playing NLH until decades later. More recently PT lives above the Killingworth Arms a public house that he is both the landlord & owner with partner Lil, runs his own family named minibus company Tretts Of Tyneside with 6-16 seaters & wedding/executive cars operating throughout the UK, as well as owning & letting out a number of high-end North East properties. Paul is the least active poker player of FTP & openly admits he finds long hours on the poker table both mentally boring & physically draining however is a big fan of Las Vegas frequenting approximately once per annum & usually finds himself doing long stints on the felt during these vacations. The extent of Paul’s common day poker exploits are a weekly NLH MTT over Killingworth Arms for his regulars which he participates in & he makes the occasional visit to 1 of Newcastle’s 3 casinos for their scheduled MTT’s. Paul’s nickname with FTPers is “Big-Bet Paul Trett” similar to that of brother KT & for similar reasons in that he likes a flutter & without doing things by half’s he’s been known to wager £2,000 on a horse race off the back of a tip which unfortunately failed to deliver as he lost & of course the rhythmic link between Bet & Trett but as with Kevin it’s often abbreviated to just “Big-Bet”.
